The Board of Directors of Winnipeg Mennonite Elementary and Middle Schools (WMES Inc.) is made up of members of the Society who are elected for three-year terms, generally at the Society's Annual Meeting each June. Each family that enrols a child in one of our schools, and is in good standing, is a member of the Society and is eligible to vote at all Society Meetings. In order to be elected to the WMES Inc. Board, Society members must also be members of a Mennonite Church.

 
In addition to the elected members, there are a number of board members on the board via appointment. The Board itself has the right to appoint up to four board members and each of the two Parents' Associations of our schools has the right to appoint one board member. Appointed board members serve for a term of one year and have full voting rights. Appointed board members do not have to be members of a Mennonite Church.

The Board's role is one of governance. Day to day operations of the schools are the responsibility of WMEMS administration. The Board is involved in setting policy governing these activities but focuses most of its efforts on the long term health of the organization and "big picture" items. The Board advises WMEMS administration during its monthly meetings and retains final approval for hiring and other important decisions through the yearly budgeting process.
