School Policies

CODE OF CONDUCT

WMEMS is a place where students should be able to enjoy learning in an atmosphere of warmth and security. We believe that a well-disciplined environment is essential to the learning process. Mutual respect, co-operation, kindness and consideration for the needs of others are but some of the virtues that are to be evident in our students. When parents/guardians enrol their children at WMEMS, one of the conditions they accept is that their child will comply readily with the School's code of conduct. The following code of conduct should be adhered to at all times:

RESPECT FOR GOD
Students are expected to show honour and respect for God in all our school and classroom activities.
  • provide appropriate role models


  • explain Christian rationale for this type of behaviour
Students
  • will refrain from using God's name in vain in the school setting and school initiated activities


  • display a positive attitude toward WMEMS Christian philosophy.
One or more of the following actions will be taken if a student does not meet these expectations.

  • interview with student by teacher/supervisor


  • removal of privileges interview with student and administration


  • parent/guardian contact


  • contract for improvement


  • temporary removal from class


  • meeting with parent/guardian


  • in-school suspension


  • length of suspension from school determined by administration
PUNCTUALITY
Students are expected to punctually attend classes and all school related activities. (eg. recesses, chapels, gym changing)
  • provide appropriate role models


  • discuss school attendance policy
Students
  • are on time for classes


  • check in the office if late or absent at 8:55 am or 1:00 pm.


  • check out at the office for an appointment and check in upon return 


  • Parents/Guardians must phone to inform the school when a student is going to be late


  • provide note for appointment
One or more of the following actions will be taken if a student does not attend classes punctually. See the above series of consequences
RESPECT FOR Authority
Students are expected to respect all school staff, volunteers and all school policies.
  • provide appropriate role models


  • approach the education of students in a respectful manner


  • discuss school policy regarding respect for authority
Students
  • demonstrate a cooperative attitude towards staff members


  • use appropriate oral, written and body language


  • are respectful in physical and verbal interaction with staff and other adults in the building
One or more of the following actions will be taken if a student does not meet these expectations. See the above series of consequences
RESPECT FOR
OTHERS
Students are expected to show honour and respect for God in all of our school and classroom activities.
  • provide appropriate role models


  • discuss school policy regarding respect for others


  • use special programs and presentations to enhance respect for others (ie. Second Step, chapels, devotions)


Students
  • demonstrate a cooperative attitude towards fellow students


  • are respectful in physical and verbal interaction with other students


  • use appropriate language


  • respect the right of others to learn without disruption


  • respect the multicultural nature of the school
One or more of the following actions will be taken if a student
does not meet these expectations. See the above series of consequences
RESPECT FOR
PROPERTY
Student are expected to respect personal property, school property, and the property of others.
  • provide appropriate role models regarding care of classroom and building


  • encourage students to take responsibility to protect their property


  • discuss in classroom aspects of theft and vandalism


  • Community Police may provide information sessions on crime prevention


Students
  • demonstrate respect towards personal, and school property and the property of others


  • contribute to maintaining and enhancing a clean and positive school environment
One or more of the following actions will be taken if a student does not meet these expectations.

  • interview with student by teacher/supervisor


  • interview with administration


  • parent/guardian contact


  • restitution for damage or theft


  • in-school suspension


  • suspension from school
PROPER DRESS
There is a wide variety of clothing acceptable for students. Students are expected to wear clothing appropriate for the school setting.
  • provide appropriate role models


  • discuss appropriate dress with students


Students
  • should wear footwear appropriate to the occasion 

  • generally hats/caps will not be worn in school during classes or lunch hour


  • should wear clothes that are suitable for our wide range of climatic conditions


  • should not wear scanty clothing or clothing with offensive logos and pictures
Students wearing inappropriate clothing, including those with offensive logos or pictures:

  • will be asked to change into appropriate clothing


  • asked to discontinue wearing the offensive item of clothing to school


  • will be sent home, if necessary, to change once parents have been contacted
SUBSTANCE
ABUSE
Use of alcohol, tobacco and non-medical drugs is not acceptable within
the school, school grounds or within the context of a school initiated activity.
  • provide appropriate role models


  • use of special programs and presentations to promote a healthy lifestyle


Students
  • refrain from bringing substances on to school property and to school initiated functions
One or more of the following actions will be taken if a student does not comply with one of these expectations:

  • confiscation of substances


  • referral to administration


  • parent/guardian contact


  • suspension from school
POSSESSION
OF
A WEAPON
Students are expected to show honour and respect for God in allour school and classroom activities.
  • will discuss with students in classrooms what may be considered a weapon


Students
  • shall not bring a weapon to school


  • shall not use any instrument as a weapon
The following actions will be taken if a student brings a weapon to school.

  • the weapon will be seized


  • parents/guardians will be contacted


  • suspension from school


  • police contacted
