Welcome teachers! Here is where you can access your school email accounts. Below you will see a number of login options that will enable you to connect to the FirstClass server.
Web Based Access
FirstClass Client Login
POP3 Access
1. Web Based Access (easiest to setup)
This method uses a typical web browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer to connect to the WMES Server. The interface is not unlike that used by other popular web based e-mail systems like Hotmail or Yahoo Mail. It is the simplest to setup and use, however the interface can be slow and unreliable at times. Furthermore because you are accessing through a web browser many of the more powerful FirstClass functions can not be used. Still if you want simply read and send e-mail this is the the most straightforward.
- Establish your connection to the Internet and open a web browser.
- In the URL field type in 64.56.140.83/login
- A password entry box will appear. Enter your FirstClass username and password.
That's it! The rest should be fairly straightforward.
2. FirstClass Client Login
The FirstClass client, that you use on your computer at school, can be downloaded and used to connect to the WMES FirstClass server via remote TCP-IP access. The advantage of using this system is that once it's setup there's nothing new to learn since you already use this program at school. Furthermore it doesn't matter if your working on a PC or a Mac. The client program works, looks and feels exactly the same on both platforms.
- Download the client program from the FirstClass website. It's free. Click here to go to Centrinity's download page. The only choice you need to make is whether or not you want to use the full or light version. The light version does not include a spell checker.
- Install the program on you computer.
- After installing the program the first time run it. It will open a service setup screen. In the server field enter our server's IP address which is 64.56.140.83 Make sure the Connect via field is set to TCP-IP.FCP and leave the network field blank. You shouldn't have to worry about any of the Advanced settings. Look at the image below. Your FirstClass setup screen should have the same settings. You can fill in the User ID or Password fields as well as check the Log in automatically if you want.
Once you've installed and setup the client program establish an Internet connection then launch it. When you see the familiar Login screen, enter your User ID and Password.
3. POP3 Access
This method is a little more difficult to setup and manage as it requires a slightly more advanced understanding of the Internet and e-mail functions. Most e-mail servers on the Internet today use a protocol called POP3. FirstClass supports this protocol. This means that you can configure any standard POP3 email program such as Eudora, Outlook, Outlook Express, Netscape Mail, or Internet Explorer Mail to connect to our server and download your e-mail.
Because there are many different types of e-mail programs and each one is setup differently this document will not deal with specific instructions for setting up your e-mail client. Basic instructions are as follows.
What you need to do is create an account in your e-mail program where the incoming mail server is our WMES FirstClass server. Make sure you have your e-mail program set to leave the mail on the server while it's being checked. If you don't all your e-mail will be deleted when it's checked from home without asking your permission to do so. You will then come to work in the morning and find your mailbox empty.
Create an e-mail account with the following settings.
- email (POP3) server: 64.56.140.83
- smtp server: use the one provided by your Internet provider
- username: your FirstClass username
- password: your FirstClass password
If you currently have an e-mail program on your home computer that already checks your mail off of a remote server (other than ours) and you wish to add WMES FirstClass you will need to use a e-mail program that supports multiple accounts. An alternate method is to instruct your FirstClass account to start collecting you Internet mail. Then you only have to setup your e-mail program at home to check for mail on a single server, namely our WMES FirstClass server. For specific instructions on setting up your FirstClass account to receive Internet e-mail talk to your WMES FirstClass Administrator.
